My Medium Stats and Earnings for The Past - 68 Days
From June 2026 - August 7, 2026
A quick recap: for June, I published 3 articles; for July, 4 articles; and so far, including this one, it will be 5 articles.
Nowadays, it’s not really about how many articles I publish, but more about how many new non-members sign up for a Medium membership through my paywalled stories.
June stats would likely be hard to beat as the distribution has changed.
I haven’t done a monthly update for June because it would have been a short article talking about me only publishing 3 articles, while most of the stats and earnings came from older articles.
Yet, the traffic was a lot better back then, or just less than 2 months ago; I know that Medium did a major update to its distribution somewhere in July, which I see even Meta-Medium articles are hard to see, and some old and new readers stop by.
June traffic was strong compared to July and August.
Of course, it could be that no one was interested or the writing was not attractive enough for anyone to click and read.
However, if you have published here for the past few months, you should be able to understand and feel what I’m talking about.
I know it could be just me, or because this account has too many within-network distribution audiences. I might have to try a new publication or publish some on my other account or something.
Member Growth Earnings
I have to say the submission post at the time still brings in $3–6 and will likely stay there as long as the traffic is similar. This really keeps this account net positive even if I don’t really publish anything each month.
However, the earnings from the member growth are pretty wild from month to month, as they do come randomly, like someone exactly pulls out their credit card and pays to read your story.
Pretty cool, then come July
It felt similar: only 4 stories were published, and 2 of them were published on the last day of the month; that’s why you see a spike in the stats above.
Of course, I would like to get paid right away even if it’s 4–5 cents a read.
What was interesting is that the earnings for July were actually more than June, despite the fact that the reads were 1K less than June.
Thanks to member growth earnings
Throughout the month, the growth earnings were blooming since the start of the month of July, as they usually were as much as the story earnings, and some days it was more than that.
Although I didn’t know where or why anyone would have signed up for a membership, since most of my stories are about writing or Medium and many of them are not on a paywall.
If Medium one day can provide stats on where or which article this “member growth earnings” came from, that would be great.
Nothing major happened in July
We can see that traffic did slow down a bit, with early-in-the-month stories about Medium doing okay and a featured article about the publication update doing about the same as usual because Medium or the publication generally does well for this account.
Now that we step into August
The track tells me that I’ll likely beat July in stats, but for earnings, I’m not sure yet since, so far, member growth earnings is saying $0.
At the same time, even when publishing more often does not change the fact that distribution has been tight even with Meta-Medium articles.
I have to say, the stats performed so consistently, as you can see that the presentations for the 4 articles were all around 4.7–4.9K.
And the views and reads for about Medium are in very close range too. (70s reads)
This does make me wonder if I’m running in circles of audience like the island effect. This is the power of network distribution, I guess.
Even the paywalled stories are acting so consistently alike. (30s reads)
Yet, I think there’s something good waiting, as I know if things are turning predictable, something unpredictable can easily slip in and change everything.
Okay, that was just my bunch of hope under wishful thinking.
The earnings is actully not that bad, with the earnings per read a bit higher than before, which is also the reason I’m publishing a bit more to gather more data on the change in distribution that eventually impacts earnings.
However, the time for me to write is pretty limited; that is why some of my articles may be longer than before because I would rather keep it longer than just having a few paragraphs of stuff to say.
I still think with Medium, it’s very account/topic/publication that dictates the traffic you’ll get over time.
There are also other factors and updates that I may not be aware of, but for me, I write out what I experienced, and hopefully, it will help send a reminder for me and anyone else that may find it useful.
If you scrolled to the end or got bored, you may scroll back up and find that you’re in a maze, j/k. Good luck.
Thanks for Reading
